Overview

Buffer brings together content planning, scheduling, and management for social media. Its AI Assistant helps you develop ideas, rewrite captions, and prepare versions of your copy for different channels within the publishing workflow.

It is an option for creators, small businesses, and teams that need to organize a regular posting schedule. You can save an idea before deciding where to publish it, then turn it into a draft or add it to your calendar.

AI is optional: you choose when to use it and which suggestions to insert into a post. Scheduling follows each network’s rules for the selected format. In some cases, Buffer sends a notification so you can finish publishing in the social network’s app.

Features and functionality

  • An assistant for generating copy suggestions and repurposing content into posts for different networks.
  • Options to rephrase, shorten, expand, and change the tone of a caption.
  • An ideas space for saving content before assigning it to a channel.
  • A publishing queue and visual calendar for arranging posts by date and time.
  • Per-network copy customization within the same composing workflow.
  • Performance analytics and collaboration features, with availability depending on the plan.

Use cases

  • Turn a note about a product into a draft post.
  • Prepare versions of a message for LinkedIn and Instagram, reviewing the tone of each.
  • Organize a week’s content schedule in a shared calendar.
  • Save ideas for future campaigns and choose channels when the content is ready.

How to use

  1. Create a Buffer account and connect the channels you want to publish to.
  2. Save an idea or open the composer for a new post and select the destination networks.
  3. Open AI Assistant and describe the topic, audience, and purpose of your message.
  4. Review the suggestion, adjust its tone or length, and insert the copy you want to use. Check facts and brand information.
  5. Customize the post for each network, add media, and set the time. Check whether it will publish automatically or require you to finish posting through a notification.

Required experience level

Everyday use is accessible to beginners and requires no programming. Initial setup involves connecting accounts, checking the time zone, and defining each channel’s schedule. Integrations and automations require familiarity with the connected tools.

Integrations

Buffer works on the web and has apps for iOS and Android. It connects to networks such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Account type and post format determine which publishing features are available.

Integrations include tools such as Canva and Google Drive, alongside an API and connections to automation services such as Zapier and Make. These options extend the workflow and require their own setup.

Plans and pricing

Buffer offers a free plan with limits on channels, ideas, and scheduled posts. AI Assistant is included in the free plan. Paid plans increase publishing capacity and add analytics and teamwork features, with pricing based on the number of channels. Check the current terms before subscribing.

When you use AI Assistant, the text you provide is shared with OpenAI to generate a response. Avoid entering confidential information. Suggestions may contain errors, and the assistant cannot directly access URLs included in your prompt. To work from an article, provide the relevant passage and check the result before publishing.
