Overview

Comet is Perplexity's browser, combining web browsing, research and AI assistance. You can open websites as usual and ask the assistant to work with their content. Perplexity Search is part of the experience, while Comet is a separate application with its own tabs and browsing controls.

It suits people who research across several websites and want to ask questions about what they are reading without copying each page into a chat. The assistant can help compare information and, when your plan allows it, take actions on websites to complete a task. The distinction between interpreting content and carrying out actions matters when choosing access and granting permissions.

Features and functionality

  • Questions about page content, with explanations and analysis of the material you have open.
  • Comparisons across tabs to support your research.
  • Summaries of articles, videos and PDFs.
  • Agent navigation and form filling, subject to the access available on your account.
  • Controls to monitor and stop the assistant while it takes actions.

Use cases

  • Compare product specifications on open pages before making a purchase decision.
  • Understand concepts in an article and summarize its main points for study.
  • Organize research by asking questions about different tabs.
  • Prepare email drafts or check appointments using connected services and the necessary permissions.

How to use

  1. Download Comet from the official website and install the version for your device.
  2. Sign in with your Perplexity account to access its associated features.
  3. Open a page and ask the assistant for an explanation or summary. To compare material, specify the relevant tabs in your request.
  4. Before delegating an action, check your plan's access and grant only the permissions needed.
  5. Monitor execution and review the result. Check recipients, form entries and amounts before authorizing a message or purchase.

Required experience level

Browsing and asking questions about pages require no programming. Delegating tasks takes more care: describe the goal, choose the context the assistant can use and know how to stop execution. An intermediate level is appropriate if you intend to use this automation with accounts and personal data.

Integrations

Comet is available for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Having a version for each system does not mean all features are identical across devices.

The browser integrates Perplexity Search. Gmail and Calendar can provide context for requests about your inbox and schedule, once connected and authorized. Review these permissions before enabling queries or actions involving personal information.

Plans and access

The browser is free to download. Access to the browsing agent requires a subscription: Perplexity's free tier does not include Browser Agent queries. Paid plans have different limits, so check your account's terms before relying on task execution.

Requests that need personal context may send relevant page content to Perplexity's servers for processing. Connector permissions can be changed or revoked in settings. Avoid including sensitive data without assessing this transfer.

The assistant provides monitoring controls and asks for authorization for certain sensitive actions. This does not replace your review: check answers against their sources and monitor tasks involving accounts, messages or payments.
