Overview
Hermes Agent is for people who want to configure an agent for recurring tasks, conversations across different channels, and tool-assisted workflows. The project provides a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, as well as command-line use on compatible platforms.
The agent can retain persistent memory, organize reusable procedures as skills, delegate subtasks, and work with tools such as web search and automations. These capabilities require responsible setup: you choose the integrations, models, credentials, and permissions, so availability is not identical in every environment.
Features and functionality
- Connects channels such as CLI, Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, and email through a configurable gateway.
- Uses persistent memory and skills to retain context and procedures across sessions.
- Supports isolated subagents for dividing work and running workflows in separate environments.
- Can run natural-language scheduling for automations when configured.
- Offers web, browsing, vision, image-generation, and voice tools, subject to the provider and environment.
- Supports multiple providers and models, including Nous Portal, OpenRouter, OpenAI, and compatible endpoints, depending on the documented configuration.
Use cases
- Centralizing conversations and tasks from different channels in a configurable agent.
- Building research routines, reports, briefs, or maintenance workflows with permission review.
- Delegating stages of a technical workflow to isolated subagents.
- Keeping reusable procedures for personal projects or technical teams.
How to use
- Choose the desktop app or a command-line installation compatible with your system.
- Configure a model provider and, when needed, credentials for channels and tools.
- Start with low-risk tasks and review permission requests before enabling automations.
- Use an isolated environment and avoid disabling safety confirmations for tasks that may change files, accounts, or services.
Required experience level
The desktop app can serve beginners in simple tasks, but integrations, external models, gateways, automations, and subagents require increasing technical familiarity. Handle permissions and credentials carefully.
Integrations
Available integrations depend on configuration. The documentation lists channels such as Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, and email, alongside model providers and compatible endpoints. An available integration does not remove the need to review its permissions and credentials.
Plans and pricing
The base software is distributed under the MIT license. Nous Portal is optional and offers free and paid plans with credits and access to models. This page does not recommend a plan because availability, limits, and cost vary by provider and usage.
